Equity Research Analyst Internship

A project-focused opportunity for candidates who can already build financial models and are ready to apply that skill to companies based in Australia and New Zealand.

Application does not guarantee selection or an internship assignment. Eligibility, assessment, availability and written terms apply.

Role focus

Equity Research Analyst Intern — a finance-focused, model-building assignment rather than a promise of a permanent job.

Company focus

Financial modeling exercises using selected Australian- and New Zealand-based companies and relevant available information.

Required skill

Applicants must already be proficient in financial modeling. This is not a beginner training course for learning modeling from scratch.

The opportunity

What does the internship involve?

This opportunity is intended to help eligible candidates apply financial modeling knowledge in a structured equity-research context.

✓

Financial model preparation

Prepare a financial model for an assigned company based in Australia or New Zealand, using the scope and format provided for the assignment.

✓

Work with company information

Use public, permitted and relevant company information for the assigned task. The exact sources and companies may vary by assignment.

✓

Document the model

Be prepared to explain key assumptions, inputs, formulas and output checks, and to identify the sources used, where required by the assignment.

✓

Submit work for review

Submit the agreed deliverable in the format and timeline stated in the written assignment brief. Review and completion criteria will be communicated in advance.

Scope and affiliation clarification: The reference to Australian- and New Zealand-based companies describes the subject of modeling exercises. It does not by itself imply that those companies sponsor the internship, are Equigenius clients, endorse Equigenius, or will review or use the candidate's work. Any specific third-party relationship will be stated only if it has been confirmed and authorized.
Eligibility first

This opportunity is for candidates who already know financial modeling.

Please apply only if you can demonstrate the prerequisite skills. The internship is not intended to replace foundational financial modeling training.

  • Working confidently in Excel or a comparable spreadsheet tool.
  • Understanding financial statements and how core statements relate.
  • Building or interpreting a structured financial model and its assumptions.
  • Explaining the logic, inputs and outputs of their model clearly.

  • External applicants who are not Equigenius students may also email their application for consideration using the same process below.
  • All applicants must meet the financial modeling prerequisite and any assignment-specific conditions.
  • Selection depends on suitability, assessment where used, assignment availability and the written terms offered.

Important terms

What “internship included” means

We want students to understand the opportunity clearly before enrolling or applying.

For Equigenius programs that expressly list an internship: the relevant program's written description and terms govern what is included. The internship pathway described here requires financial modeling proficiency and may involve eligibility review, selection and assignment availability. Unless the applicable written program terms expressly state otherwise, enrollment or payment alone should not be understood as automatic selection, a guaranteed assignment, a guaranteed completion certificate, or a job offer. Review the relevant program terms before purchase and ask Equigenius to clarify any point that is important to your decision.

Details confirmed in writing

Before an accepted candidate starts, the role-specific written terms should state applicable details such as the expected duration, schedule or hours, reporting contact, deliverables, review process, any stipend or other compensation, any expenses, confidentiality/data handling, ownership and permitted use of work, and completion or certificate criteria.

No unspoken assumptions

Do not assume the internship is paid or unpaid, full-time or part-time, remote or onsite, or of a particular duration unless those terms are stated in writing for the specific opportunity. Any fee or payment obligation, if applicable, should also be disclosed in writing before you commit.

Yes. The opportunity described on this page focuses on financial-modeling work in an equity-research context. The specific assignment and deliverables are set out in the written brief provided to a selected candidate.

What work will I do?

The core work is to prepare a financial model on an assigned Australian- or New Zealand-based company. Required analysis, source documentation, format and review steps depend on the assignment brief.

Can I apply if I am not an Equigenius student?

Yes. External applicants may submit an application for consideration. They must meet the same financial modeling prerequisite and are not automatically selected by applying.

Do I need to know financial modeling before applying?

Yes. Financial modeling proficiency is a prerequisite. This opportunity is not designed to teach the fundamentals of financial modeling from the beginning. Your experience may be reviewed or assessed.

Is selection guaranteed when the internship is mentioned in a course?

Check the exact written inclusions and terms of the program you are purchasing. This page describes the internship pathway and its prerequisites; it does not override a more specific written promise in an individual program offer. Where eligibility, assessment, selection or availability conditions apply, those conditions should be read before purchase.

Will I receive a certificate or a recommendation letter?

Only if the written terms for the specific opportunity say so and the stated completion conditions are met. A certificate, reference, recommendation or employment offer is not automatic unless expressly confirmed in writing.

Are the Australian and New Zealand companies internship sponsors?

The country references describe the companies that may be selected for modeling exercises. They do not imply sponsorship, partnership, endorsement or a relationship with any specific company unless that relationship is separately confirmed and authorized.
